Fresh look for the site and reflection

It has been several months since my last post and so much has happened with life, adventures, and my homelab that my head is spinning. I'm excited to give an updated and refreshed look to the blog. I hope you like it. I've installed a new template and layout.

Blog User Experience

Happy 2022! This year is shaping up to be an incredibly busy year for us, and Teri and I still have so much to discuss and share from 2021 in upcoming articles!

I wanted to announce our decision to remove Google Ads from this blog site. While our readership has steadily been growing, the volume of traffic that our blog receives is not large enough to benefit from Google Ads.

Reworking the Blog's Media Gallery

Recently, I cleaned out our blog's media gallery. It hasn't been updated in quite some time. I am excited to use some of the recent updates to the Squarespace platform to start posting photos and videos from some of our adventures.

Recycling Technology

Recently, my 2012-era ThinkPad X230 has been showing its age. Over the last 6 years, I've performed numerous performance upgrades and the laptop has been more than enough computer for daily tasks, retro games, multimedia editing, and programming, but for the last 6 months, I've noticed a large crack in the underside of the case that kept getting worse.

Dragon Warrior

During my holiday vacation, there were many mornings where the baby had gone for a nap and Teri wasn't quite yet awake. I found myself revisiting memories from my childhood of playing the original Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) with my Mom. I loaded up the ROM for Dragon Warrior on my Recalbox and set off on a quest to save the princess and rid the land of a tyrant in all of its 8-bit glory.

Robot Life (Enhanced)

I've officially been on holiday time since December 15th @ 5:01pm. I ended my last day of work before vacation by taking my team from UNLV to Giordano's for deep dish pizzas and libations.

Aside from work and post-Thanksgiving holiday prep, I've been anxious for Christmas Day to roll around. Rosslyn and Teri have some great gifts and surprises in store for them!

OpenTable Affiliate Referral Links - Part 1

Teri recently applied and was accepted as an OpenTable Affiliate, so that we can provide the convenience of online OpenTable reservations to our readers. What we received is a useful branding press kit, some branding requirements, and the credentials and URIs for accessing a RESTful API. I love the opportunities to work on my Python skills, as well as learn new things, but I'm a bit baffled why OpenTable doesn't offer a simple WYSIWYG widget builder for affiliates that are restuarant gurus not programmers. Obviously, the RESTful API is awesome for programmers and the Warmest Robot, but the Warmest Human thought it was a bit much to ask of a non-technical user. With a widget builder, OpenTable Affiliates could build a referral link that meets branding requirements without having to ask an INTP for help. I've decided to help others on the net by posting my method and code in series of articles.

Warmest Robot + Warmest Human

As you all know, I have recently revamped the blog and transitioned from Blogger to Squarespace. While I was making that transition, Teri had discussed her interest in starting a blog of her own to publish product and restaurant reviews, chronicle her adventures in motherhood, and showcase her vast knowledge of craft beers and breweries.
