Since it’s October, it’s safe to say that the start of the holiday season is officially here! This year will be extra exciting for us – first because I am not pregnant and can enjoy hot apple cider, hot spiced wine and all of the other great adult treats. Second because we have baby Rosslyn and we are really looking forward to starting family traditions for each holiday. We’ve already picked out her Halloween costume – let’s just say she’s going to be the cutest pumpkin in the patch! We also have a special outfit for her to wear on Thanksgiving. We’ll only get to experience these “firsts” once and we are jazzed!

There are tons of great family friendly activities this time of year and I am happy to share with y’all our experience at the Moapa Valley Corn Maze. Moapa is just about an hour out of the Valley, and it’s a nice, easy drive up the 15 North. We followed the directions provided by Google maps and had no issues finding it. However, it is a bit off of the beaten path and we both made jokes that we felt kind of like if we were in a movie, this would be a bad idea. It was definitely a bit sketchy, that’s for sure, but once we got back to a large clearing, there was plenty of parking and it was clear we were in the right place.

There is one small ticket booth as you enter and admission is $12 per person (I don’t recall seeing an age limit, but they didn’t charge us for Rosslyn). This fee includes quite a few of the attractions, like the day/night corn maze, the cow train, farm swing, pedal carts, pig races and petting zoo. Concessions, face painting, a haunted maze, zombie paintball, corn cannon and hay ride are all available for extra an charge.

Since Rosslyn is too small for any of the rides, we just headed straight for the corn maze. This year it is apparently in the shape of a water wheel (we didn’t know this before going). This was a ton of fun! We encountered quite a few families in the maze and John and I were able to figure it out pretty quickly, although we did get lost a few times. The terrain is rough, so I definitely suggest wearing close toed shoes. Also, it is not stroller friendly – I wore the baby in our Lille Baby carrier and she did great. We were there during the day, and here are a couple of important tips:

  1. Wear sunscreen and bring hats!
  2. There are TONS of bees, which are necessary for them to farm and grow produce. They are not aggressive, but I suggest not wearing bright colors or trying to pick flowers and bring your Epipen if you are allergic like me.
  3. Bring your own water! We did a lot of walking and since it is early October, it was still pretty hot out there. Apparently, it cools off at night, and will continue to cool off as the month progresses.

The attractions are all open on weekends in October. The schedule can be found here. It was not crowded while we were there, but I am sure as Halloween approaches the crowd will grow. We had a blast and look forward to making this a yearly tradition for our family. Plus, we always love supporting family owned businesses!
