After a month of no major issues and even more drama with Teri’s T-Mobile account, I switched Teri to Mint Sim in October. We’ve both been using Mint SIM without any major issues. Calls, Texts, Internet, Android Auto, and Tethering all worked great with Mint SIM.
Really, in all of my testing I could only find 2 things on my phone that are annoying, but don’t seem to be service related.
- Randomly and rarely, when I auto-dial contacts, sometimes my Google Nexus 5x hangs up immediately after attempting to dial and on subsequent calls everything works fine.
- Even with great technical support and my own expertise, I was unable to get my Google Nexus 5x to support Mint SIM’s wifi calling feature. Teri on the other hand has had zero problems getting this feature to work.
Given the shoddy track record that the Google Nexus 5x hardware has had, as well as the instability between major updates, I honestly believe that both of these problems are related to my phone and not the service provided by MintSIM. Prior to leaving T-Mobile, I experienced the known “known hardware issue” on my Nexus 5x which triggered a catastrophic device failure. After a warranty replacement, I am planning to replace both Teri and my phone in 2018 with Motorola G5s Plus Special Edition.
Honestly, switching to Mint SIM has been one of the best money savers of 2017 and will save $600 per year over T-Mobile’s One Plan. Ironically, with Mint SIM we’re still using T-Mobile’s network, but for significantly less money. I plan to use the net savings from this change to help offset the costs of upgrading our phones. Again, if you love T-Mobile’s coverage and you want to save money, you really can’t go wrong with Mint SIM!
