It’s been a long time since I remember seeing snow in the Las Vegas Valley. In fact, the last time I recall there being a snowstorm was December of 2006. I will never forget that storm, as I was taking the first significant vacation from my job at Nevada State College and traveling to San Diego to play tourist for a week.
My departure had been delayed. Despite braving the weather on Interstate 15, I reached the Nevada/California State Line and was forced off the road by the state troopers because the storm had shutdown the Cajon Pass and it was deemed unsafe to attempt to travel back to Las Vegas. I lost a night of prepaid hotel, caught a horrible sinus infection, and had to bunk at Whiskey Pete’s Hotel Casino with thousands of stranded motorists.
The storm today produced no accumulation. The snowflakes were large, wet, and melted instantly, but it was great spending today with Rosslyn and Teri. I took the day off so I could go with the family to Rosslyn’s pediatrician for her 9 month wellness check. Everything went splendidly and Rosslyn is doing great. When we came home and put Rosslyn down for a nap it started to snow.
It’s funny how old memories resurface sometimes when new memories are being formed. Today was a great day to think about the past while looking forward to the future. Happy Friday!
